My paintings are also largely faithful to natural composition. I came to painting after years of amateur photography, which can be very much an art of showing compositions that already exist. And now, in paintings also, I love to emphasize actual relationships I have found, of space and form made by the subject or by subject-with-environment. To do this, I rely a lot on selectivity and tonal values.
Statement
I paint because I like to communicate my experiences of the world. I also love the unique challenge each time.
Media
Transparent watercolors are my primary medium. I sometimes use pen and ink, charcoal, gouache, acrylics-as-watercolors, or combinations of these.
Style
My art is usually figurative and representational. My subject is typically a tangible thing or group of things which attracted me by character, or beauty, or some other admirable quality.
Background
My formal education is not in art. I am a master social worker with long professional experience in that field. As an artist I am mostly self-taught. I began painting at 60. My work has been accepted in juried shows, with awards, including Mid-Southern Watercolorists, and other exhibitions.
